Rattus play The Stranglers at The Star on Quarry Street on Saturday 3 October, their third show at the pub where the band played its first public gig in 1974.
Rattus, a tribute band that plays the music of The Stranglers, are back at The Star in Guildford on Saturday 3 October. It is their third show at the Quarry Street pub, where, the band says, The Stranglers played their first public gig in 1974.
The gig is in the back room of The Star Inn, 2 Quarry Street. Doors open at 8.30pm, last entry is 9pm and the night runs to 11pm. Tickets are listed at £18 and the event is for over-18s only, according to the Skiddle ticket listing (checked 25 September; tickets were still on sale).
Why The Star matters to Stranglers fans
The band first played The Star in 2024. That show marked 50 years since The Stranglers’ debut performance at the venue, and Rattus say it brought fans together “in the very building where that history began”.
They came back in 2025 with a guest: Ava Rave, the widow of Stranglers drummer Jet Black. According to the band, she spoke to the audience in the interval about her memories of being close to The Stranglers and of her life with Jet. Rattus describe it as “a warm and personal contribution” that made the night “an unforgettable one for the band and fans alike”.
The pub has a plaque marking The Stranglers’ first performance there, the band says.
What the band says
The singer, who goes by Doc, said:
“Playing The Star is always special for us. You can’t escape the history of the place. To perform the music of The Stranglers in the venue where it all started is a fantastic experience, and the audiences over the last two years have made both nights incredibly memorable.
“Last year, having Ava with us and hearing her speak about Jet and her experiences with the band was something really special. Who knows what will happen this year, but we know it’s going to be a great night.”
The band has not said whether there will be a guest this time.
